Custom Printing Guide for Paper Products

Compare paper stocks, common sizes, NCR part configurations, binding methods and finishing options before preparing your artwork or requesting a custom printing quote.

01 · Paper materials

Choose the Right Paper for Writing, Copying and Finishing

Paper type and weight affect writability, carbonless copy performance, stiffness, folding and overall print quality.

Uncoated Woodfree Paper

Common weights:58 gsm · 75 gsm · 120 gsm

A smooth, writable paper commonly used for guest checks, business forms, napkin bands and other custom printed paper products.

Finished product examples

Buying note: Tell us how the finished product will be used—whether it needs to be written on, produce copies, fold, wrap or provide support. We’ll recommend a suitable paper type and weight.

02 · Paper size

Compare Standard Paper Sizes

Use A3, A4, A5, A6 and DL as size references before confirming a standard or custom finished size.

ISO paper size comparison showing A3 A4 A5 and A6 dimensions

A3 · 297 × 420 mm

Large forms, charts and folded sheets

A4 · 210 × 297 mm

Invoices, documents and detailed business forms

A5 · 148 × 210 mm

Invoice, receipt and order books

A6 · 105 × 148 mm

Pocket forms, tickets and compact pads

DL · 99 × 210 mm

Slips, inserts and narrow forms

Custom · Width × height

Guest checks, business forms and napkin bands

Size note: Standard dimensions are shown for reference. For a custom size, provide width × height and confirm whether the dimensions refer to the finished product or the flat, unfolded sheet.

03 · NCR copy parts

Choose the Right Number of Parts for Your Carbonless Forms

Choose 1-part, 2-part, 3-part or multi-part NCR forms based on how many copies each order, invoice or business record requires.

1-Part

Original only

A single writing sheet for records that do not require a copy.

2-Part

Original + 1 copy

One original and one copy for the customer, office or service team.

3-Part

Original + 2 copies

One original and two copies for customers, departments or internal record keeping.

Additional Parts

4-Part and above

Multi-part sets are available for workflows that require additional copies.

CB

Top sheet

Coated on the back to transfer the written image to the sheet below.

CFB

Middle sheet

Coated on the front to receive the image and on the back to transfer it to the next sheet.

CF

Final sheet

Coated on the front to receive and retain the final copy.

Copy sequence note: Confirm the number of parts, sheet colors and who keeps each copy. Quote quantities in sets for multi-part forms, not individual sheets.

04 · BINDING OPTIONS

Choose a Binding Style for Books, Pads and Loose Sets

Compare glued pads, stapled books, loose NCR sets and spine-taped books based on how the pages need to stay together, tear off and be handled in daily use.

Glued Book or Pad

Sheets or collated sets are glued along one edge for an organized format with easy tear-off pages.

Stapled Book

A secure book format with a cover and backing board for frequent daily handling.

Loose NCR Sets

Collated carbonless sets supplied without binding for use at counters, on clipboards or for filing.

Glued with Spine Tape

Closure options designed for custom printed napkin bands.

05 · Printing & finishing

Choose Printing and Finishing Options

Confirm print colors, perforation, numbering, receipt stubs, writing shields and packing before artwork approval.

Print Colors

Confirm artwork colors, paper colors and whether printing is required on one or both sides.

Perforation

Specify each tear line and the finished section that must remain attached.

Sequential numbering

Confirm the start number, digit count, position and whether all parts repeat the same number.

Receipt Stubs

Choose no stub, a top stub or a bottom stub where the product structure supports it.

Writing shields

Use a writing shield where lower NCR sets need protection during handwriting.

Packing

Confirm units per book, books or sets per inner pack, cartons and export marks.

Paper Printing Guide FAQ

What information is needed for a custom paper printing quote?

Share the product type, finished size, paper or copy structure, quantity, binding, finishing, packing and artwork status. If a detail is not decided, describe how the product will be used so it can be reviewed.

What is the difference between 2-part and 3-part carbonless forms?

A 2-part set contains an original and one copy. A 3-part set contains an original and two copies for workflows where three users or departments need the same record.

What do CB, CFB and CF mean?

CB is the top sheet that transfers the image from its back. CFB is a middle sheet that receives and transfers the image. CF is the final sheet that receives the last copy.

How should I specify a custom paper size?

Give the width before the height, include millimetres and inches when useful, and state whether the measurement is the finished size or the flat size. Also identify any binding edge, receipt stub or perforation.

Are sheets and sets the same quantity?

No. A sheet is one piece of paper. A set is one complete multi-part form, so a 2-part set contains two sheets and a 3-part set contains three sheets.
